For Texas-based animation studio Fuzz Animation‘s new showreel, I wrote a sweeping orchestral theme that accents the magic and whimsy of their 3D animation targeted towards family media. Founded by independent 3D artist Nathan Dillow, Fuzz Animation provides a comprehensive range of animation services to clients worldwide and has gathered hundreds of millions of views with their Super Simple Songs range of children’s online videos. Jerry Goldsmith Award for “Caminandes: Gran Dillama”!

JGA2014I’m honored and proud to announce that my score for the animated short film Caminandes: Gran Dillama has won a Jerry Goldsmith Award in the category of Best Score for an Animated Short Film at this year’s International Film Music Festival in Córdoba, Spain! The film marks my second collaboration with the talented team around director and 3D artist Pablo Vazquez, and I’m grateful that they gave me the opportunity to be inspired by their work.

The win was announced in a ceremony that took place in the beautiful renaissance town of Córdoba on July 24th. Among the attending guests of the festival were award-winning composers Abel Korzeniowski, Christopher Lennertz, Debbie Wiseman, and Rolfe Kent.

I am very grateful to the jury and the festival organizers for the recognition of my work and sincerely hope for Gran Dillama and its predecessor, Llama Drama, to be only the beginning of an exciting collaboration with Pablo and his team!

Scoring a Journey Across Southern Africa

ZimZamBotFor their newest adventure, Touratech founders Herbert and Ramona Schwarz travel 3000 miles across the ever-changing landscapes of Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana. For the feature length travel documentary directed by Wolfgang Danner, I wrote and produced half an hour of original rock music with a cool African tinge. The film will be released on DVD soon.

Caminandes Ep. 2: “Gran Dillama” Released!

Caminandes 2 PosterThe eternal arms race between nature and man’s contrivances has entered its next round and this time, man has electricity on his side. When Koro, a rather hapless llama living in the Patagonian andes, comes across an evil-looking fence that stands between him and the snack of his dreams, the proverbial gloves quickly come off…

After close to half a million people watched the first episode of Pablo Vazquez‘ series of cartoon shorts Caminandes back in 2012, the second episode was released in late 2013 and made quite a splash online; among other recognitions, it was featured as a Staff Pick on Vimeo, and got showcased on the disney.com frontpage.

Just like with the first episode, I wrote the music and was responsible for the audio post production of Caminandes: Gran Dillama. You can watch the short online, and buy both films along with bonus material and all 3D assets for the second episode in the Blender e-shop.

The World is RONDO

When medical technology specialist MED-EL introduced the world’s first single-unit processor for cochlear implants (CI) RONDO to the market, they approached Austrian animation studio arx anima for an image film that highlights the new level of freedom that the new technology can bring to hearing-impaired people. The result is an animated 2-minute journey through the world of sound: Musical instruments combine into symphonic landscapes, cities bristle with the sounds of communication, a stadium crowd erupts in jubilant cheering…

For arx anima, I provided a vibrant piece of music to accompany the spoken words of the poem that ties the images together, as well as the sound design and the audio mixing. You can watch and hear the result on YouTube or on my References page.

I’m very happy to announce that my music for Detective Agency No. 2, a series of detective stories for young readers written by Norwegian author Jørn Lier Horst and illustrated by Hans Jørgen Sandnes, has been nominated for Best Music in Advertisement at the 2013 Jerry Goldsmith Awards! The annual Jerry Goldsmith Award ceremony takes place as part of the International Film Music Festival in Córdoba, Spain, and in recent years has become one of the most renowned and sought-after recognitions for young media composers in Europe.

This has been my fifth nomination for the award overall, and I’m very grateful and honored for the recognition. The ceremony will take place on the 25th of June with attendance by veteran composers such as Rachel Portman (Chocolat, Oliver Twist) and last year’s Academy Award™ winner Mychael Danna (Life of Pi).
