Black Sigil

Black SigilBel Lenora is a world where people are born with magic at their command. Years ago, a single man walked the land with no magic in his veins. He brought death and tragedy in his wake and was banished by a brave General at a great cost. It has been fifteen years since his banishment and once again, a young man with no magic walks the land of Bel Lenora.

Black Sigil is a Japanese-style RPG by Canadian developer Studio Archcraft, published wordwide in 2009 for the Nintendo DS by Graffiti Entertainment. To accompany the distinctly “retro” visual style, I wrote more than an hour of old-school “16 bit orchestra” game music.

Black Sigil“Black Sigil one-ups most of the JRPGs coming out recently with its musical score. The haunting music may be the best feature of this game. Each musical track really builds the atmosphere of the title.” — Buzz Focus

“Even the best RPG soundtracks can become grating over time, but you’ll find Black Sigil’s music a perfect fit for its retro style. In particular, the battle and town themes are so catchy that they’ll stick with you after you’ve turned off your DS.” — GameSpot

“Black Sigil’s music really makes you feel the magic of Bel Lenora, and there are plenty of songs that perfectly complement each scene.” — Brian Shirk, Bitmob

“A wonderful soundtrack.” — Kombo
