Sintel
Sintel is an epic tale about a solitary young girl who finds an unlikely companion in the streets of her inhospitable hometown Ishtar. When the friends are ruthlessly torn apart, she embarks on a desperate journey during which she has to face not only deadly perils, but also come to terms with her real vulnerabilities.
The CG short film is the third “open movie” produced by Ton Roosendaal‘s Amsterdam-based media production venture, the Blender Institute. Directed by Colin Levy, it premiered on September 27th, 2010 at Netherlands Film Festival. A few days later it was released for free online and quickly gathered a lot of public attention. To this date, more than a million people have watched it on YouTube (named a “must-see in HD” and featured on the front page by the YouTube staff); it has been featured prominently on sites such as Slashdot, Cartoon Brew, and Reddit.

Just like with its spiritual predecessors Elephants Dream and Big Buck Bunny, I’ve written and produced the musical score for the film and was responsible of the sound design, foley and 5.1 mixing. For the ending and credits roll of the movie, I wrote a song based on the movie’s main theme, which was performed by jazz/pop singer Helena Fix. At the International Film Music Festival 2011 in Úbeda, Spain, my score for Sintel has won two Jerry Goldsmith Awards in the categories of Best Score for an Animated Short Film and Best Song.
If you want to support the project, please consider pre-ordering the 4-DVD set! It contains not only the movie itself (PAL, NTSC, HD formats up to 2k), but also a making-of feature, lots of commentary tracks from the creators, extensive 3d design tutorials, and not at least all production data that was used to render the film!
Back to Scotland
Produced by Touratech and directed by Wolfgang Danner, Back to Scotland offers a fascinating portrait of Scotland’s breathtaking scenery. Listen to a montage of music that I’ve written and produced for this feature:
Tube
Tube plays on the ancient Gilgamesh poem — a primordial artifact of oral history and storytelling — in a variant of the hero’s progress that becomes the animation’s own frames. The new short film by Elephants Dream director Bassam Kurdali is currently in production.

Black Sigil
Bel Lenora is a world where people are born with magic at their command. Years ago, a single man walked the land with no magic in his veins. He brought death and tragedy in his wake and was banished by a brave General at a great cost. It has been fifteen years since his banishment and once again, a young man with no magic walks the land of Bel Lenora.
Black Sigil is a Japanese-style RPG by Canadian developer Studio Archcraft, published wordwide in 2009 for the Nintendo DS by Graffiti Entertainment. To accompany the distinctly “retro” visual style, I wrote more than an hour of old-school “16 bit orchestra” game music.
“Black Sigil one-ups most of the JRPGs coming out recently with its musical score. The haunting music may be the best feature of this game. Each musical track really builds the atmosphere of the title.” — Buzz Focus
“Even the best RPG soundtracks can become grating over time, but you’ll find Black Sigil’s music a perfect fit for its retro style. In particular, the battle and town themes are so catchy that they’ll stick with you after you’ve turned off your DS.” — GameSpot
“Black Sigil’s music really makes you feel the magic of Bel Lenora, and there are plenty of songs that perfectly complement each scene.” — Brian Shirk, Bitmob
“A wonderful soundtrack.” — Kombo
